What exactly is the factory warranty?

It will happen to you. Your car is almost new, but while driving you suddenly see smoke coming from under the hood and almost immediately red lights on the dashboard. Then it is good that there is a warranty on a new car. But what exactly does that mean?

Most new cars have a two to seven year manufacturer’s warranty, which does not mean that all costs on the car are covered. To understand what warranty is all about, divide your car defects into two categories: wearing parts and non-consumable parts. The first category is not covered by the warranty, because you can expect parts such as brake pads, wiper blades and tires to wear out. The second does. After all, you can expect the wiper motor to continue to work. And if that part is found to be broken within the warranty period, it must be replaced and as a customer you do not have to pay for the costs of the part and labor.

Good maintenance

The car well maintained is an important point. To make a claim under the warranty, you must have performed maintenance in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. That does not mean that you are obliged to go to the brand dealer. The warranty continues to apply as long as a garage carries out maintenance according to the manufacturer’s specifications. A mechanic may then use parts from another supplier. An oil or air filter may be replaced by a part from, for example, Bosch, as long as it meets the specifications of the car manufacturer.

At Bosch Car Service, your new car is in good hands.

Bringing a new car to a universal Bosch Car Service company for maintenance is therefore
no problem and does not affect the validity of the manufacturer’s warranty. The only thing a universal company cannot and should not do is perform the work associated with a recall. That has to be done by the manufacturer itself.

Proper repair

The warranty does expire if you start working on the car and carry out repairs in a way that is not prescribed. Cleaning instead of replacing an air filter is therefore not allowed
and will often void the manufacturer’s warranty. Anyone who has their car properly maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions at a Bosch Car Service car company therefore simply retains the factory warranty.
