What is the electric car with the longest range?

A hot topic for many people is the range of an electric car. This can certainly be limited with the smaller types. What is the electric car with the longest range?

The range is important, but you have to look at several factors with an electric car. One of them is your usage: what distance do you regularly drive in one go? And what are the charging options, also when it comes to fast charging? After all, you can start every day with a full battery and recharge it at work or appointment before you go back. In that case, the range of an electric car actually only counts for long journeys, for example during a holiday. However, we are curious to answer the question: what is the electric car with the largest range on the market?

Overview electric car with the largest range

We looked it up in the AutoWeek CarBase car comparator. In it you can find even more properties of the cars and make a further selection. And below you will find the top 10. We base ourselves here on the WLTP standard, which makes the comparison possible. In practice you have to take into account that you can get â…” of the distance with one battery charge, provided you do not drive in mountains or at high speeds.

  1. Mercedes EQS 450+ AMG Line – 735 km. The equivalent of the Mercedes S-class, but electric. You get a nicely equipped car. Surprisingly, the Luxury Line with the same specifications does not get as far on a battery.
  2. Tesla Model S Long Range – 652 km. An old acquaintance that certainly lives up to its name. The sporty version Plaid has more power and that is clearly at the expense of the range, because it does not go as far on a battery.
  3. BMW iX xDrive50 – 630 km. The electric SUV that goes the farthest on a battery. The brand with the kidneys is catching up relative to the high-volume electric cars in the market. This car can also tow a trailer up to 2500 kilos. Then you probably won’t get that far.
  4. Tesla Model 3 Long Range – 614 km. This is one of the most popular electric cars, especially in the business lease. The good range will certainly contribute to that. And it’s four-wheel drive too.
  5. Ford Mustang Mach-E 98 kWh RWD – 610 km. If you think you’re dealing with a sports car here, that’s just the name, it’s more like an SUV. Since its launch, it has managed to attract the choice of many riders. The rear-wheel drive version has a slightly greater range than the four-wheel drive version.
  6. BMW i4 eDrive 40 – 590 km. The second BMW in this overview is a sporty car. The M50 variant of this type comes less far but is practically the same in price.
  7. Tesla Model X Long Range – 580 km. Although he also has ‘Long Range’ in the name, this SUV has to indicate a lot of cars. We don’t think that’s a shame, with this range you literally come a long way! And it is also one of the bigger cars. Handy if you want to take a lot with you.
  8. VW ID3 77 kWh 204 hp Pro S – 553 km. This is the smallest and cheapest car in this overview. Proof that even a middle class can have a large range.
  9. Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron – 534 km. Now a familiar sight on the Dutch roads, a sporty crossover that knows how to find its way.
  10. Audi Q4 e-tron – 520 km. Slightly cheaper and a slightly smaller range. Perhaps it is because the Sportback is slightly more favorable aerodynamically. And maybe this one is a bit more practical, if you’re in doubt between this version or number 9 in the list.
