WhatsApp update brings animated stickers and personal qr code

WhatsApp always tries to keep its app modern by going along with trends of other social media platforms. The company has now announced a number of cool updates.

WhatsApp says the new features will be available for the iPhone in the coming weeks. In addition, a long-awaited WhatsApp update for Mac devices will also be released soon.

New functions can already be used in beta versions of WhatsApp, so you may already be familiar with a few updates. Nevertheless, here are the 4 features that will appear in WhatsApp for iOS in the coming weeks.

1. Animated stickers

Stickers have become quite popular, and WhatsApp now wants to respond to this by making them move. We have already seen the animated WhatsApp stickers in a beta version, so this addition does not come as a surprise. There is no difference with normal stickers, except that the new ones look more festive with nice animations.

2. Add someone with qr code

It will also soon be easier to add new people on WhatsApp. With the upcoming update it will be possible to save a contact via a QR code. We already know this handy function from other apps, such as Snapchat.

3. Improved Group Video Calls

It recently became possible to make video calls with 8 people at the same time, and WhatsApp is now building on this. In a while, group video calls will have a new function, with which you can easily zoom in on one person.

You can enlarge the image of a specific person by pressing the frame. This can be useful when looking at 8 people at once on a small iPhone SE.

4. WhatsApp Web and Desktop get dark mode

Since iOS 13, iPhones have had the option to set a dark mode, and WhatsApp itself has offered this option for a while. However, a dark theme has so far stayed away from WhatsApp Web and WhatsApp Desktop for the Mac.
