The messaging application could soon integrate a companion mode allowing you to link a second smartphone to your WhatsApp account, and automatically synchronize your conversation history.
WhatsApp would be working on new options for its multi-device function which allows you to connect the same account on several devices. A few weeks ago, WABetaInfo, a site renowned for discovering future features in WhatsApp’s beta code, revealed that the messaging application was developing a Companion mode. This would allow the user to log into their WhatsApp account on a second smartphone without the need to keep the first device connected to the internet. Until now, the multi-device function integrated into the application made it possible to connect a WhatsApp account on several terminals such as computers or tablets, but only on a smartphone.
Instant messaging could, however, go further and offer to synchronize conversation history between mobile devices. By dissecting the beta 2.22.15.13 of the application, WABetaInfo discovered by connecting a second smartphone in companion mode, a message indicating that the history of conversations was being synchronized. According to the site, WhatsApp would also offer this function on the Web and Desktop versions of its application.
Since WhatsApp’s companion mode is still under development, it is currently not officially available in beta versions of the application. Anyway, the ability to connect to your WhatsApp account from a second smartphone would allow the application to catch up in this area. Competing applications such as Signal or Telegram already allow you to connect to the same account from several smartphones and are also responsible for synchronizing all conversations between the different devices.
