WhatsApp is working on a feature to let people use avatars during video calls. It should therefore be possible to adopt a custom avatar in the form of, for example, Memoji or Bitmoji. The feature is being worked on, but it is not yet known when the feature will be rolled out.
Catching up on WhatsApp
We can gradually say that WhatsApp is catching up. Especially when it comes to emojis. In this, the chat service lagged behind apps such as Telegram, iMessage and Messenger. Lately, WhatsApp has been more or less catching up on this backlog. For example, in May of this year, the company came up with emoji reactions and is also working on the sweetest feature yet. Video call avatars
So WhatsApp is working on a feature to let people use a personalized avatar in video calls. This should, among other things, be an improvement in the area of privacy, but it can also be ‘just’ fun for people who want to show themselves in a different creative way in such a video conversation.
It is not yet fully known in which style WhatsApp will apply the avatars, but you can think of a style similar to Bitmoji. In this app you can create your own unique set of different stickers and emojis all based on you. You can also choose to give your created avatar various accessories. Think of glasses, hats, different hairstyles and colors, et cetera. However, WhatsApp could also opt for a Memoji style more. Apple’s slightly tighter and three-dimensional stickers.
Availability
As mentioned above, it is not yet known when WhatsApp will release the feature. We think WhatsApp will test the feature in a beta program first. When it becomes available, you will of course hear about it here on Androidworld.
