Which animal(s) did I encounter in my studio?

I would like to know which insect this concerns. I came across it in my studio (I’m a carpenter).

Asker: jurgen, 46 years old

Answer

Hi Jurgen,

Interesting find and completely in its place in your wood workshop: it is the wood wasp (Urocerus gigas). Usually lays her eggs in coniferous trees (the ovipositor can be seen at the back). The larvae take two to three years to hatch and mature. It is therefore not uncommon for this to happen when the wood has already been processed in buildings or when it is waiting in a workshop.

Kind regards,

Rudy

PS I would have liked to know in which region the animal was found.
