Why do I get stitches in my side when I run longer than 5 km?

I suffer from stitches in the side when I run longer than 5 km. I only have this at competitions and never at training because I never run longer than 5 km there. I have a good level so I am no longer a beginner.

I have already used abdominal breathing, I am busy with liver cure, abdominal exercises, walk straight, let the masseur work loose, manual therapist, heat gel just before competition,…

I’ve tried all sorts of things but to no avail?

Answer

Dear Kevin,

I would have liked to know “which” she? The left side indicates a contraction of the spleen to provide your body with the last supply of red blood cells. Trained or not: it means that you have too few red blood cells to complete the effort without spleen spasm. Only training “on” (carefully/gradually to more) is a solution to increase your hematocrit on the one hand and the number of mitochondria (cell respiration) in your muscles on the other. As a result, your spleen will empty itself less during exercise. On the other hand, other blood-demanding organs can also determine your blood supply and wring out the spleen: maybe you eat too short before a competition and too much blood flows to your stomach and intestines.

You can also have severe cramps in your intestines due to the effort and the lack of oxygen: the same applies here: be careful with the time of eating and drinking (apparently your body cannot handle that too close to an effort) and carefully (with 5 minutes / times) train “on” if you stay below the pain level.
