I always practice for a test, but when I have to read, I forget. How did that happen?
Answer
You have different kinds of memories. The primary only remembers something for a very short time because it makes no sense to store the information for a longer period of time. (eg you order a pizza and after 10 min you realize you need a second one: you will probably have to look up the phone number again unless you know the pizzeria very well). It’s a kind of working memory.
In the secondary memory you store things you need to know for a longer period of time. Memorizing material for an exam is a good example. This saving improves with training and practice. If you’re having trouble with this save, you probably need to review your method of doing this. Repetition, aloud if necessary, can help. It is very important that you keep your attention. If you are easily distracted, memorization becomes a lot more difficult. Self-discipline is the message here.
