Microsoft’s online storage service can be configured to host images and documents by default.
Windows 10 has several specific user folders for storing documents, pictures, music, and videos. By default, the applications offer to save new files in the appropriate folders. For example, Paint will store a new drawing in the pictures folder, unless you tell it somewhere else.
If you wish to favor online storage, the OneDrive service, included in Windows 10, can be configured to automatically receive certain files (5 GB are made available to the user free of charge). OneDrive can thus operate an online redirection of folders Pictures and Documents, as well as the Windows desktop. For that :
- Click the OneDrive icon in the Windows taskbar (the icon may be in the area of the bar accessed by the inverted V). If this is the first time using OneDrive, you will need to sign in with your Microsoft account. Then click on More, then on Settings.

- Click on the tab Automatic recording and you can set the default location for the Office, the Documents and the Pictures : on This PC only (locally) or on OneDrive (cloud storage).

- In our example, we have configured the folder Documents to lead directly to OneDrive, as can be seen by launching File Explorer. Thus, any program that by default saves files in the folder Documents will automatically see these redirected to the online folder.

- If you have documents stored locally on the computer, you can still access them with File Explorer by going to the subfolder Documents from your user folder.

- In our example, our name is 01Lab. You must therefore go to C: Users 01Lab Documents to access the documents stored locally on the computer.
- Windows can also offer to automatically store screenshots (press the Print screen key) and photos on OneDrive when a smartphone or digital camera is connected to the computer.

- To do this, check the boxes Photos and videos and or Screenshot in the tab Automatic recording OneDrive settings.
