Windows 10 automatic update system can consume a lot of bandwidth. It is however possible to limit the speeds of this service.
Are you watching a streaming video on your PC and suddenly the quality deteriorates? This can be caused by downloading an update which consumes bandwidth and can become problematic if your Internet connection is not fast enough. In addition, it is not possible to control the download of updates in the Home version of Windows 10, unlike the Professional version. If you have not yet switched to fiber, you can limit the speeds of Windows Update. Here’s how to do it:
1 – Go to the settings of Windows Update
You have two solutions: either go through the Start menu, or go directly to Windows Update by typing its name in the search box. If you click on the Start menu, use the gear icon to access Windows settings, then click Update and security.

2 – Access the advanced options
In Windows Update, click Advanced options.

Then click on Delivery optimization.

And finally, click again on Advanced options.

3 – Limit the speed of downloads
In the section Download settings, Check the box Set the limit on the bandwidth allocated to downloading updates in the background.

The slider below the box allows you to allocate a greater or lesser percentage of the bandwidth. Decrease the value to 10% if you do not want the download of updates to consume a lot of your bandwidth. However, they will take longer.
