Microsoft has just released an update for Windows 10 allowing anyone who installs it to get the new News widget in the taskbar. Here’s how to set it up properly.
the widget Windows 10 News is officially available to all users. Microsoft has just released a cumulative update for Windows 10 version 2004, Windows 10 version 20H2, and Windows 10 version 21H1, which allows all users to take advantage of the widget in the OS task bar.
For now, this update remains optional. If your operating system does not yet have the famous widget, it is quite possible to obtain it without further delay, by manually launching the installation of the update, which allows all users to benefit from it.
Grafted directly into the Windows 10 taskbar, this widget displays by default a mini weather report, composed of an icon reflecting the weather of the place in which you are, accompanied by the temperature and a comment.
To fully deploy it, just hover over it with the mouse. You then access a “scrollable” panel in which you find a selection of the latest news, more complete weather forecasts, the latest Ligue 1 results, the stock market, or even traffic information, which, when you click on it, open in Microsoft Edge.
Fortunately, if some of these elements are not relevant to you, you can always customize the widget. Here’s how.
Also to discover in video:
1. Customize the appearance of the widget
The first element that can be customized is the appearance of the widget in himself. To do this, right-click on the Windows 10 taskbar, then in the News and fields of interest menu, select Show icon only.

The temperature and the meager weather report should then be replaced by the single icon, freeing up space in the taskbar.

Note that it is also from this context menu that you can choose to Disable the widget if you just don’t want it. You can also modify the behavior of the widget from this menu. By default, it opens as soon as the mouse hovers over it. By deactivating this option, the widget will only open when you click on it.
2. Fully open the widget
When you deploy the widget News, it is displayed in a floating pane in which you can scroll through the content offered.
To open any of the content present in the widget, just click on it. Microsoft Edge, Microsoft’s web browser, should then open and load the requested page.
You can also view the entire content of the widget in full screen. To do this, open the widget, and click the See more news button. The news feed from widget then opens in Microsoft Edge.

3. Personalize the content
To customize the content displayed in the widget, open it and click Customize.

3. Personalize the content
To customize the content displayed in the widget, open it and click Customize.
The My Interests page, from which you can select your preferred topics, appears.
In the left column is displayed the list of available themes. Select one, then in the main display pane, click the + button displayed in front of the topics you want to follow.

The selection of content displayed in the widget should now update.
4. Remove content
If the items displayed by default do not suit you, it is entirely possible to delete them. To do this, open the widget, and click on the cross button, displayed at the top right of the news tiles.

You will then be able to indicate if you are not interested in this article, if you do not like this source, or to make a report if the content presents a problem.

By deleting articles or sources, the widget will hide similar information in the future, or no longer offer you content from sources you don’t like.
In addition to the news blocks, the built-in blocks by default (weather forecast, stock market, Ligue 1 results and traffic info) can be deactivated. To do this, click on the options button represented by three small dots displayed in the upper right corner of each of them, then choose to Hide them or indicate that you are not interested.

5. Interact with the content
At the bottom of each news tile, several options are displayed. You can first choose to react to a post by liking it or by using an emoji.
It is also possible to Save an article to keep it and easily accessible for later reading from the My Saves section when you open the full page widget in Microsoft Edge.
The option button, represented by three small dots, allows you to access a contextual menu. There you will find an option to Share the article or Read it later (Save).

Microsoft also offers you to indicate whether you want More articles like this or on the contrary, Less articles like this. By acting on these different options, the widget learns more about your interests and thus adapts the suggestions it displays.
Finally, you can, again, choose to Hide this article or Hide the articles from this source so that the widget ceases to offer you content from the site concerned.
