Microsoft’s new OS no longer displays a confirmation window when deleting a file by default. To avoid accidentally erasing a document, this alert can be reactivated.
Since Windows 10, Microsoft’s operating system no longer automatically displays an alert window when sending an item to the trash. With Windows 11, this option is also disabled by default.
As a result, it may happen that you inadvertently delete one or more selected items. It is possible to modify the settings of the recycle bin so that a pop-up asks you for confirmation each time an item is going to be deleted. Here’s how.
Also to discover in video:
1. Open the recycle bin settings
From the Windows desktop, right click on the trash can icon and enter Properties.

2. Activate the deletion confirmation
At the bottom of the Recycle Bin Properties window, select the Show deletion confirmation check box.

Validate your modifications by clicking on the Apply button, then by clicking on the OK button.
From now on, any attempt to delete a file will trigger the display of a confirmation window on which you will have to click to validate the deletion of the selected file (s).
