From GTI to Turbo 16 and from Rallye to Roland Garros: all well-known 205s received laurel wreaths around their mirrors and during the festive speeches the tasty story was presented of how they had saved the Peugeot brand from certain death. Praise everywhere, and rightly so. Apparently it did not apply to that one, silent 205, the version that had not managed to keep up with the pace of its celebrated relatives. Literally, because this concerns the 205 Electrique from 1984.

Yes, a fully electric 205, which is woefully absent from Stellantis’ communication about forty years of 205. Strange, because given its mature characteristics, the 205 Electrique definitely deserves more credit. Then here. Please note: the term mature does not yet apply to the acceleration figures and range, because given the battery technology of forty years ago, they were logically not at the same high level as today. No, the 205 Electrique had to rely on the artful way in which twelve batteries as well as the electric motor and drive were simply concealed in the existing engine compartment. Ergo: it had the same interior space and usage options as a regular 205 GL. At 850 kilos, he was also only 100 kilos heavier. When braking gently, the electric motor worked as a generator and the battery was recharged; Only when pedaling harder did the braking system itself come into effect.
Now the key figures: Peugeot promised a range of 140 kilometers in pure city traffic and also 140 at a constant 70 km/h. Academic values, but practical figures for the twenty examples built cannot be found. In any case, the 205 Electrique performed much better on paper than the electric 106 that appeared ten years later, which only achieved a range of 80 kilometers. Only it did go into production. Not fair? Oh well, it was only given to the electric 205 to get a successor in the form of the Peugeot e-208.
