It is not easy to shoot beautiful pictures of fireworks with your phone. It’s dark, fireworks are gone in an instant and if you’re a little unlucky, there’s so much spice in the air that your photos get a very gray haze. With these apps you can shoot the most beautiful fireworks photos this New Year’s Eve.
Slow Shutter Cam
A good night photo, whether it’s fireworks or the Northern Lights, depends on the shutter speed. The shutter speed is the exposure time and it is very important when it is dark. For Apple phones there is the app Slow Shutter Cam, which allows you to take photos that have been exposed to light for a long time. As a result, there is more to see, sometimes even than you can see with the naked eye.
Camera FV-5
For people with an Android phone, there is also an app that allows you to extend the shutter speed for extra beautiful fireworks pictures. Camera FV-5 offers an explanation of how best to use it after installation, but dare to experiment. The application doesn’t give you a lot of tips once you’ve gone through the explanation, but don’t be afraid to play around with the possibilities it offers you. The ISO is something to keep in mind because it affects how ‘sensitive’ the lens is.
Adobe Lightroom
The above apps are used while taking the photo, but there are also a lot of applications that can provide an impressive photo right afterwards. An example of this is Adobe Lightroom, which is available for both iOS and Android. Here you will find good tools to edit your photo, but also a lot of filters as you know from Instagram, for example, but slightly different.
Moment – Pro Camera
moment is a great iOS application that allows you to shoot the most beautiful pictures of fireworks. The application is user-friendly and gives you a lot of freedom to make your photos shine even more, both before and after. It is even possible to save your photos as raw files, so you can make it something extra impressive with Photoshop or another professional program.
after light
As the name suggests, the app allows you to after light (available on both iOS and Android) adjust the exposure after taking a photo. In some cases, that goes way too far: then your photo is still overexposed afterwards, but with a subtle filter you can often make that one decorative arrow look just a bit nicer. Afterlight is easy to use. So easy, that it almost makes you lazy in photography. Don’t, because of course it can always be better. However, if you’re taking a photo with champagne rising to your head on New Year’s Eve, you’re allowed to cheat a bit.
Think about your phone’s options
Apps can make your pictures more beautiful, but if you have the basics in order, you’ve come a long way. By this we mean that you can come a long way if you use the possibilities of your phone optimally. Try making a timelapse if your phone can, or shoot photos in the night mode which can withstand the darkness just that little bit better.
Many phones have a wide-angle lens, with which you can also take completely different pictures of the glowing sky. You may also want to consider using a phone stand.
Be creative
By extension, you can also be creative in other ways. For example, if someone uses asterisks, have them make a circle with the asterisk. Take a picture of that with a slow shutter speed and you will be amazed by the result. You can also make a video or via social media as TikTok or Instagram do a funny effect like Boomerang. For example, you can clearly show the graceful movements of the fireworks.
Finally, clean the lens of your smartphone before you start, often that is the number one reason why ‘flares’, light streaks, appear on your photos. For many more tips, we recommend this one Smartphone Photography Course Bundle at.
