The new school year has (almost) started. Want to get off to a good start with your learning, but your iPhone is distracting you too much? Fortunately, there are a number of apps that can help you focus.

When you’re learning, the temptation is of course great to ‘just’ grab your iPhone. Maybe you wanted to look something up, but before you know it you’ve fallen into a hole with TikTok, or the craziest YouTube videos you can think of.

Fortunately, there are concentration apps that help you avoid reaching for your iPhone every five minutes. That way you can learn better and start the new school year with a good start. We list the best for you.

1. Forest

Forest motivates you not to look at your phone. The app does this by planting trees. You choose a tree and determine how long you want to focus. You tap the plant button and put your iPhone away.

If you don’t touch your iPhone in time, the seed will grow into a large tree. If you can’t resist the temptation and pick up your iPhone in the meantime, the tree will die. If you like, you also have the option to listen to forest sounds while learning. The more trees you have grown, the more will be in your forest.

2. Emphasis

Emphasis uses the so-called Pomodoro technique. With this you reward yourself after a short study session with a short break. That way you can concentrate for a longer period of time.

You can create your own to-do list in the app. Then you set a time block in which you will fully focus. When the time block is over, you can, for example, get some fresh air, watch cat videos, or whatever you like to get some energy again. You repeat this process until you can check off your tasks in the app.

3. Focus Keeper

Focus Keeper is made to keep your productivity as high as possible. The simple interface makes the app intuitive and not distracting. You choose a task and set the timer.

The app lets you focus for 25 minutes, after which you earn a five-minute break. After the break, repeat the process again. After four times you can take a longer break, of about 20 to 30 minutes. The app tracks your progress and shows you with a graph how well you have concentrated recently.

4. Be Focused

Be Focused also uses the Pomodoro technique, with short breaks in between. You make a to-do list in the app and keep track of when these are completed. You can also organize your time blocks yourself.

The handy thing about this app is that it is also integrated with the Apple Watch. That way you can also keep track of the timer via your Apple Watch, and you can put your iPhone nicely out of sight. If you take the pro version, you can even sync the app with your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and MacBook.

5. Screen Time

It may seem a bit obvious, but iOS Screen Time is also a very useful feature for limiting your iPhone use. Use Screen Time to set limits for yourself when using apps.

Once you reach your limit, you will no longer be able to open the app. You set a limit by going to Screen Time in the Settings app. In the dashboard you can choose App limits. Here you set which apps (or all) you want to set a limit for and for how long.
