World record for Electreon: 1,942 km without recharging

The world record for electric driving without recharging has been broken by the Israeli Electreon. That start-up says it drove no less than 1,942.6 kilometers and thus proves the usefulness of an interesting invention of its own.

Electreon says it is engaged in “technology that should accelerate the mass adoption of EVs.” It mainly focuses on infrastructure, more specifically the wireless charging of EVs. In addition to parking, according to Electreon, charging should also be possible while driving, which is the solution that made this world record possible.

Electreon set the world record for electric driving without charging on an oval-shaped test track with the charging technology near Tel Aviv. Incidentally, it did not go fast: in more than 100 hours, a total of 1,942.6 kilometers were covered by 55 different drivers, but without charging stops. A total of 241.7 kWh was consumed.

Interesting – and perhaps a bit strange – is that Electreon did not use a pure EV for this record, but a RAV4 PHEV from partner Toyota. However, according to Electreon, that car has driven purely electrically, which in any case proves that a large battery is not necessary if the road you are driving on can charge that battery. That is a good thing, because it is in line with one of Electreon’s goals. A road that can charge makes it unnecessary to carry large, expensive and heavy batteries, with all the associated financial and other benefits.

Projects in Europe

Electreon is literally making good progress with its charging technology. In addition to cars, it also seems to want to use this technology for larger vehicles, such as trucks and city buses. Trials have been set up for this purpose in Germany, Sweden and Italy, of course in collaboration with local authorities.
