The Wuling HongGuang Mini EV sells like crazy in the country where it comes from: China. The car started there 2021 with sales figures that other electric models in that country can only dream of.
The final sales figures for China for February have not yet been received, but there is almost no doubt that the Wuling Mini EV again topped the BEV sales lists last month. The tiny electric car has been in control of the lead since October. Figures from EV Sales Blog shows that in January of this year no fewer than 36,762 units were sold. A little more than in the previous record month, November. The Wuling is not to be dragged along and that is also evident when we compare it with the number 2 and 3 on the list of best-selling EVs in China, the Tesla Model 3 and BYD Han EV. Of these, 13,843 and 9,298 were sold in China respectively in January.
The Wuling does not necessarily have to rely on its appearance, but it is a smart car that is also attractively priced. From around € 3,500 to € 3,800 you can put a brand new one in front of your door in China. Believe it or not, there are four seats in the only 2.92 meter ‘long’ Wuling. With a 17 hp electric motor, the Mini EV travels up to a maximum of around 100 km / h and thanks to a 9.2 or 13.8 kWh battery pack, the NEDC cycle requires around 120 to 170 km on one. load to be deposited. Great for the city, where it undoubtedly comes into its own best.
FreZe Nikrob EV
Although we obviously have different requirements for cars here in Europe than there, it could well be that the thing becomes interesting here too. Then we take a look at our eccentric friends from Dartz. They have brought in the Wuling and transformed it into FreZe Nikrob EV. In principle, it remains technically the same as the Wuling, although the FreZe here in Europe has to cost € 10,000. “In the Netherlands it will of course be practically free,” said Dartz founder Leonard F. Yankelovich recently in conversation with Techzle. After all; if you can get € 4,000 in purchase subsidy on it, you could possibly be ready for about € 6,000. So who knows, we may be on the eve of an unprecedented European success, although it still seems more likely that de Wuling will have a party to celebrate in his own country.
