Wuling Mini EV as a tiny convertible

The Mini EV is a miniscule electrical block box that is now being cut open by Wuling. Yes, the angular and cuddly Mini EV cries out for attention as the Cabriolet Concept.

Last year around this time, we wrote the first reports about the Mini EV, a 2.92 meter short electric city EV from Wuling. Thanks to its high cuddly factor and relatively spacious interior, the car turned out to be a direct bull’s eye for the partnership established in 2002 between the Chinese SAIC Motor and General Motors. The Mini EV was sold almost 37,000 times in China in January this year, making it the best-selling electric car of the month. That tastes like more, it seems. Wuling is showing the Mini EV Cabriolet Concept. Indeed, a preview of a convertible that will actually come, according to Chinese media.

The Mini EV Cabriolet is still a concept and is decorated with things that you may not see on the production version. The question is whether the silver-colored inserts in the bumpers and on the doors reach the production stage. Unlike the Mini EV, which apparently fits four seats, the cut-open version has only two seats. The technology is undoubtedly not tinkered with and that means that it will get an 18 hp electric motor that is linked to a 9.2 kWh or 13.8 kWh battery pack. The top speed of the Mini EV, which is the cheapest electric car in China with a starting price of € 3,685, is 100 km / h. The range of the 13.8 kWh version should be around 170 NEDC kilometers. Wuling immediately presents a particularly fierce-looking variant, with a very high Calimero effect. It is not yet known whether it will actually go into production. We do know that Latvian-based Dartz Motors will produce the Mini EV itself for the European market. We can only hope that Dartz will also include the convertible in its range. After all, Dartz is crazy enough for that.
