Would you like a compact electric four-wheeler that allows you to easily zoom around, especially in urban areas? Then keep a close eye on start-up XEV. That company sells the XEV Yoyo in Europe: an electric compact city rover with interchangeable batteries that has now been slightly refreshed.

XEV is an Italian-Hong Kong start-up that previously launched the XEV Yoyo in Europe. The Only the chassis, seats and windows, together with the components of the electric drivetrain and the tires, are not manufactured by a 3D printer. With its length of 2.53 meters, the Yoyo is almost 20 centimeters longer than a Renault Twizy, but it is slightly shorter than the very first Smart Fortwo (City Coupé).

XEV Yoyo: with replaceable battery.

The XEV Yoyo, which has been refined in detail, is an electric city friend with a 10.2 hp and in boost mode temporarily 30 hp electric motor that helps it reach a top speed of 80 km/h. There is a 10.3 kWh battery in the bottom and you should be able to buzz around electrically for about 150 kilometers. For comparison: the Twizy had to make do with a 6.1 kWh battery. You can charge an empty battery pack at home, but if you experience range stress while on the road, you should be able to provide the vehicle with a fully charged battery at a battery exchange station in 3 minutes. Just like Nio currently, XEV also believes in battery swapping stations. A flap in the rear bumper provides access to the package. XEV will set up battery swapping stations together with energy company ENI. It currently says it has 30 exchange stations spread across cities such as Turin, Bologna, Milan, Florence and Rome.

The Yoyo has LED lighting all around, a glass roof and infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Air conditioning, electrically operated windows and central locking are all part of the equipment. It will be available as Easy, City and Tech.

XEV says that it sells the Yoyo in Italy, Germany, France and Spain, among others, and that the latest version has a basic starting price of around €16,990. XEV says it already has more than 120 sales points in these countries. By the end of this year, XEV wants to have more than 300 sales points in Europe. The Yoyo will also be available in the Netherlands. After all, there is already a website where the Yoyo can be found. We are still awaiting a response from the Dutch importer regarding, among other things, prices and the network of switching stations. A moped license alone is not enough for the Yoyo.
