Supersport bike sales are just a shadow of what they once were, so it’s no surprise that manufacturers are shifting the focus to track-only bikes. This also applies to Yamaha, which, following the YZF-R6 GYRT for 2023, has now also introduced a YZF-R1 GYTR.

After the launch of the GYTR (Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing) parts line and the GYTR PRO SHOPS, where the R1 could be converted into a real racer, it was of course waiting for them to do that at Yamaha itself. With the arrival of Euro 5, an R6 RACE was already introduced with GYTR parts and now the Japanese have launched an R1 GYTR.
Strictly speaking, the 2023 R1 GYTR is not the first GYTR that Yamaha has released from the R1. In 2018, the Japanese launched a limited-edition YZF-R1 GYTR “20th Anniversary”, launched at the time to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the R1. Unlike the 2023 R1 GYTR, however, that Limited Edition was street legal in 2018.
The 2023 R1 GYTR has been developed for track use and is therefore not homologated for use on public roads. According to Yamaha, the bike has been specifically designed as a super-efficient package for track riders and racers, so it’s equipped with only the parts needed for the track.
Over 25 GYTR parts have been fitted, plus an Akrapovic exhaust system. We’ve listed the most important parts for you: GYTR ECU, wiring harness, PC interface cable, GYTR ABS emulator, 14/42 520 sprocket set plus GYTR R-Series 520 chain, Bridgestone R11 tires and a GYTR fuel cap.

The list goes on: stainless steel brake lines and calipers with steel GYTR piston set, Brembo Z04 brake pads, race clip-ons plus handlebar stoppers, protective brackets for the rear sprocket and the front brake, a race gear set with reverse shifting pattern, a trestle plus bobbins to jack up the engine and of course a full unpainted racing fairing plus a GYTR racing seat.
If that’s not enough, Yamaha has launched a new set of racing parts on the market: the GYTR PRO line, with which the R1 can be prepared for participation in the Superbike World Championship. In fact, according to Yamaha, the parts from the GYTR PRO line are also used by those four teams in that World Cup: Pata Yamaha, GYTR GRT Yamaha, GIL Motorsport Yamaha and Motoxracing Yamaha.
If you want to convert your R1 into a GYTR racer, you can go to the GYTR PRO SHOPS in Europe, which were created by Yamaha especially for sales and support of GYTR parts. There are currently 17 shops in Europe, the plan is to expand this to 25 shops.
All shops are affiliated with Racing programs and provide custom solutions for customers’ R1, R6, R7 and R3 motorcycles. From December 2022, the new 2023 R1 GYTR parts will only be available at these GYTR PRO SHOPS.
