AutoWeek 49 will be in stores from tomorrow or will fall on your doormat this week. This week we put a new and used electric car next to each other that cost about the same. We also drive the mischievous Citroën Ami and we have a pick-up with a Dodge Viper engine on the dynamometer.
One of the objections that people have against electric driving is the purchase price. And let’s face it: an EV is not cheap. But Dacia is now changing that with the mischievous and affordable Spring. In the meantime, used electric cars are trickling into the market and you can buy a Volkswagen e-Golf for the price of the Romanian with plug, for example. Or is that comparing apples to oranges?
Mercedes-Benz also donned an All-Terrain suit for the new C-Class Estate. A C for the more adventurous driver. Thanks to the four-wheel drive and the increased ground clearance, you can get off the beaten track well. Not that anyone will do that with this car, of course, but we’d still like to see what it can do!
A car that has to prove itself in a completely different way is the new Citroën Ami. Soberly considered, you can not do very much with the Citroën Ami and it is questionable whether this electric box will come to the Netherlands. Still, he has a huge appeal. You just want it! In short, relevant or not, we like to drive around the church in Montsoult near Paris with this.
The Toyota Yaris Cross that we have had in our garage as an endurance tester for a while is not the first compact crossover of the brand. Its spiritual predecessor, the Urban Cruiser, has just sunk into the collective memory. So nice to conjure up one again and to see if Toyota’s approach is significantly different this time than it was then.
We will stick with high-legged models for a while, because we also drove the brand new Volkswagen Taigo. Although, brand new, to put it bluntly, it is of course a T-Cross with a more sloping roofline and some other exterior changes. Let’s see what the added value is.
As usual, there is also a lot of attention for older cars. For example, in AutoWeek 49 you will find a nice report about an electric Trabant and in Klokje Rond a 2006 Honda Civic with more than 4 tons on the counter can show whether there is more in it. The absolute stunner, however, is the car that is on the dynamometer this week. That’s a Dodge Ram SRT-10. Yes, a pick-up with the V10 that was also in the Viper in its nose. On paper, it delivers over 500 horsepower. On paper …
All that and more can be read in the latest AutoWeek. It will be in stores from Wednesday this week. Would you rather not go out? Order from the comfort of your home the latest number. Then it will be delivered to your doorstep within two working days.
