You can use emoji to quickly find locations in Apple Maps and more

Looking for a nice cafe or a place to eat a hamburger? Typing words is no longer necessary, with Spotlight you can also just use emoji. We show how these Spotlight emoji work.

Using Spotlight emoji: this is how you do it

You can use the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch’s Spotlight search to quickly find a restaurant, clothing store, university, and more. All you have to do is enter the correct emoji in the search bar. You open this search bar by slowly swiping down on your screen. You can then enter an emoji in the search bar that appears there. Another way to open this Spotlight screen is to swipe from right to left on your home screen.

For example, when testing this function, we got results with the following emoji:

  • Beer
  • Men’s clothes
  • Women’s clothing
  • Shoes
  • Optician (glasses)
  • French fries
  • Pizzeria
  • Plate of spaghetti (Italian restaurant)
  • Bread (baker)
  • Fruit (banana)
  • Football
  • Car (Car rental)

Something different every time

The results may vary. One time Apple puts the Maps app at the top and the other time iOS presents an app from the App Store. We find this function especially useful for Apple Maps, because it allows you to quickly find a cafe based on your location, for example. By tapping on the results, the Maps app will open automatically, and you will immediately see a route to the place in question.

Which emoji that are not in the above list have you discovered in Spotlight? Let us know in a comment below this post!
