Browse YouTube videos faster by changing the length of the fast forward or rewind mode that activates with a double tap on the screen.
Navigating YouTube videos with ease hasn’t always been as easy as it is today. Over the years, Google has multiplied initiatives to chew up the work of users and help them find the content that interests them more quickly. A little over a year ago, the Mountain View firm therefore inaugurated a chapter function to simplify navigation in the videos. More recently, the streaming video platform has integrated video search by chapter directly into its search engine.
Unfortunately, all the content published on the platform does not integrate this chaptering system which is only put in place at the initiative of their author. The only remaining solution is to quickly skim over a video in order to explore its content, using the application’s fast forward or rewind function.

On Android as on iOS, it is indeed possible to quickly advance or rewind a handful of seconds by double-taping the left or right of the screen. By default, YouTube only moves forward or backward in 10 second increments in videos. But this time can be changed simply enough to get you going a little faster. Here’s how.
1. Open settings
From the main page of the YouTube application, tap on your avatar at the top right of the interface. In the pane that appears, tap Settings, then go to General app settings.

2. Change the duration to go forward or backward
On Android, enter the Double tap to go forward or rewind option and then in the pop-up that pops up, choose the length of time you want YouTube to go forward or backward when you double tap to go forward or backward in a video.

On iOS, enter the Fast forward and rewind menu and select the duration to apply to the function.

You can now exit the application settings and start playing a video on the platform. Double tap on the right or left of the screen to go forward or backward. If everything went as planned, you should no longer browse in 10 second increments but move forward or backward the number of seconds you have chosen in the app settings.
