Ypsilon not the only Lancia making a comeback

You won’t hear anything from Lancia for years and there are two new Lancias on AutoWeek.nl at the same time. Well, the car we see here is not formally a Lancia, but it is inspired by an iconic Lancia: the 037.

This morning the brand new Lancia Ypsilon stole the show here on AutoWeek.nl, now it is the turn of the Lancia 037. Or better said: a modern reincarnation of that famous rally hero from the 80s. The Italian Kimera Automobili works (not for the first) to a contemporary tribute. The first one, the EVO37, was released in 2021, now it is time for a successor.

Especially in this Martini livery, the EVO37 already looked quite similar to its iconic example

The new creation, called EVO38, seems to remain quite faithful in appearance to its predecessor and therefore also to the Lancia 037. The biggest external difference with the Kimera EVO37 that can already be spotted is that the license plate at the back is one floor lower. With the original 037 it was often very high on the butt. However, there was also a Lancia 037 Stradale to meet homologation requirements, which had it in approximately the same position as this EVO38.

This EVO38 will probably also become street legal, just like the EVO37. The big difference: it is a four-wheel drive car. This not only differs from the EVO37, but also from the Lancia 037. The latter made a name for itself as the last rear-wheel drive car to win the WRC, despite fierce opposition from Audi with its Quattro. According to Kimera Automobili, the EVO38 is a typical case of ‘what if…’. We are very curious to see how it will turn out. For the EVO37, the Lancia Beta Montecarlo was used as a basis and a 2.2 four-cylinder engine was boosted to more than 500 hp. That also promises something for the EVO38. The car will be unveiled on February 22.
