Is the MPV dead? In Europe perhaps almost, but elsewhere in the world the space giants are still very much alive. Volvo’s sister brand Zeekr is now releasing the first photos of a brand new MPV that also has an electric powertrain.
The Chinese Geely has an enormous portfolio of brands, of which you know Volvo, Lynk & Co and Lotus in Europe. But there is also Zeekr, which already sells an electric crossover with the 001 in its home country China. That 001 won’t stay alone for long. Zeekr’s second electric model will not be an SUV or crossover, but a purebred MPV. We now have a clearer picture of the Zeekr 009.

At the end of July, Zeekr already released the first dark teaser plates of the 009. Where the 001 was originally intended as a model for Lynk & Co, but when Zeekr has dried up, the 001 still has a typical Lynk & Co front, the Zeekr 009 gets quite the look of its own. Yet he cannot be denied some Lynk & Co influences. For example, we see headlights that are mainly made up of two vertical stripes. The Lynk & Co models also have a light signature consisting of vertical stripes. The Zeekr 009 has a sliding door on both the left and right side with a striking rising line in the body. For as much interior space as possible, Zeekr has turned the 009 into a pretty angular colossus.

Like the Lynk & Co and a range of future models from Volvo and Polestar, the Zeekr 009 is on the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform. It measures over 5.2 meters in length, of which 3.21 meters alone is between the front and rear axles. We do not have any technical specifications yet. Other hefty but not necessarily electric MPVs in China are the Trumpchi M8, the Buick GL8 and the Roewe iMax8.
