With custom builds, electric is probably the last thing on your mind, if not with Zero Motorcycles. The world leader in electric motorcycles and powertrains has released images of the unique SR-X motorcycle, a fully custom designed reinvention of the SR/S.
The SR-X is the latest addition to the Zero Motorcycles Design the Future development program, which has produced one of the most innovative and creative electric motorcycles in the world. Design the Future brings together the industry’s most accomplished designers and engineers to push the boundaries of what’s possible with electric motorcycles.
HUGE Design is led by Bill Webb, who has again played a key role in Zero’s vision for the future. Webb was responsible for the design of the popular FXE motorcycle and its predecessor, the Zero SM.
The SR-X is the latest example of both its visionary design and Zero’s commitment to innovation. Showcasing Zero’s industry-leading electric drivetrain, this limited fairing concept motorcycle has both performance and style.
“The SR-X concept bike seeks to hit the sensitive spot in the design of future electric motorcycles, combining clean lines and disciplined design detail with the aggressive stance and raw performance feel of modern-style sports bikes.
The clean lines and disciplined ‘product design’ style of the SR-X are combined with the aggressive proportions and raw functionality/visible engineering of more traditional race bikes. This is an attempt to define a new sub-category for high performance electric performance, something between a street fighter and a track bike. Combining fairings and aerodynamic performance with a raw street attitude.
We want true sport bikers to appreciate the subtle and balanced design approach: modern, futuristic and beautiful without compromising the raw performance looks and explicit technical appearance of high-performance motorcycles. The team wanted to create a dramatic and low front-heavy silhouette with bodywork that allowed the fully visible engineering to be contrasted in an unconventional way towards the rear of the bike.
The SR/S chassis/technique Zero designed is impressive to look at and we wanted the raw bike underneath to be part of the end result.”
“When Bill first digitally released his Mono-Racr design a few years ago, I knew immediately that the design language based on clean, simple shapes would be the perfect fit for an electric motorcycle. electric sports motorcycle platform in the SR-X concept.
Powered by Zero’s advanced ZF75-10 electric motor and the latest ZF17.3 lithium-ion battery, the SR-X represents a bold vision for the future of motorcycling. At Zero Motorcycles, we are driven by a passion for design and technology, and the SR-X is the perfect expression of this passion. We can’t wait to see how this concept bike will inspire the future of the industry and continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible.”
