Apple event March 8: you can expect these 4 products

Tuesday is the day: the first Apple event of 2022! The tech giant will then make multiple product unveilings, including a new iPhone, iPad and Mac. Below you can read our expectations for the Apple event on March 8!

Apple event March 8: our expectations

The Apple event is themed ‘Peek Performance’ and starts at 19:00 Dutch time. It is again a virtual event; this means that there is no live audience. The Cupertino company makes a slick video production in advance that will be broadcast on Tuesday evening.

Thanks to renowned Apple analysts Ming-Chi Kuo and Mark Gurman, we know broadly what Apple has in store, although not everything is clear yet. There are likely to be three product unveilings, with possibly a fourth ‘one more thing’.

1. iPhone SE 2022

One product seems a certainty: a new iPhone SE. The entry-level iPhone is not Apple’s most advanced phone, but it has been one of the most popular iPhones for years. And that’s why the SE deserves to be in the spotlight, Apple thinks.

The new iPhone SE 2022 will not be very exciting. It has a faster processor (probably the A15 Bionic), 5G support and an improved camera. The now somewhat old-fashioned design does not change anything: there is again a 4.7-inch display with a home button for Touch ID below.

2. iPad Air 2022

Last year, Apple renewed all iPad models, except the iPad Air. It will be the first iPad this year. As with the iPhone SE, 5G support, an A15 Bionic chip and improved camera are the main innovations.

As far as the camera is concerned, especially the selfie camera is improving. There, Apple places a 12-MP ultra-wide-angle lens, which the other iPad models now also have on the front. This makes the iPad Air 2022 more suitable for video calling. The appearance of the iPad Air will probably not change.

3. New Mac

According to Apple insider Mark Gurman, Apple will announce at least one new Mac at the Apple event on March 8. A big contender is the Mac mini, which is reportedly ready to ship. We may also hear more about the 13-inch MacBook Pro and iMac Pro, which are expected in the first half of 2022.

4. One more thing

“I’m told a fourth wild card reveal is imminent,” Gurman wrote in his weekly newsletter. “This can range from the announcement of a new monitor to the iMac Pro or a smaller Mac Pro.”

About the external display, Gurman says that Apple has had it ready for months. The screen would cost about half of Apple’s Pro Display XDR: about $2,500. The Apple insider does not expect the iMac Pro or Mac Pro to go on sale in the short term, but Apple may already show a preview.
