Buell Super Cruiser: cruising with 175 horsepower

It won’t be available until 2025 and even then only on the other side of the Atlantic, but Buell Super Cruiser could well make mincemeat of the power cruiser segment. Unless someone else comes up with a 175 hp cruiser before then.

Buell Super Cruiser: cruising with 175 horsepower

For the time being, it’s not much use to us, the resurrection of Buell, which rose from its ashes two years ago at the height of the corona pandemic. Now based in Grand Rappids, Michigan, the motorcycle manufacturer revived the 1190 RX and 1190 SX, renaming the 1190 RX the Hammerhead 1190, but for now those models are only available in the US.

However, during the resurrection, Buell also announced the plan to launch no less than 10 new models in three years, which would be put on the market from 2024. Performance models, that is, which should do justice to the brand’s Superbike performance and handling.

With the year 2024, the Americans have apparently been a little too optimistic, but one of the models that will be launched in 2025 is this Super Cruiser, designed and developed in collaboration with the famous Ronald Sands Design.

Like the Hammerhead 1190 and 1190 SX, the Super Cruiser is powered by Buell’s 1190cc V-twin, which has been down-tuned for use in this cruiser, but not by much. According to Buell, the Super Cruiser’s muscle comes from Buell’s unique 175 horsepower V-twin, which is exactly 10 horses less than the Naked and Supersport.

As far as the design is concerned, Roland Sands seems to be mainly inspired by Harley’s Low Rider S, given the resemblance to that American from Milwaukee. Apart from the design, Sands also redesigned the swingarm, front fork and brakes.

According to Buell, the Super Cruiser has better ground clearance and an ideal riding position thanks to the positioning of the handlebars, seat and footpegs. “An evocative ride with exhilarating performance poised to become the most popular bike on the market,” said Buell. Point!
