Ferrari now seems to continue with fuel cars after 2035

Now that the ban on fuel engines from 2035 is not as strict as it first seemed to be, Ferrari sees opportunities to continue with combustion engines for longer. CEO Benedetto Vigna responds positively to recent developments.

Initially, the EU regulations on new cars would effectively end all fuel cars by 2035. Now, at the last minute, an exception has been made for cars that run exclusively on sustainable synthetic fuel. This is expected to be particularly interesting for manufacturers of (expensive) sports cars, because the fuel engine is difficult to wave goodbye to, especially for their customers, and alternative fuels will probably become quite expensive. Ferrari confirms this expectation. The top man of the Italian brand is pleased with the adjusted plans.

According to Benedetto Vigna it is ‘interesting’, because “it will allow us to continue with fuel engines after 2036”, says Autonews on. According to Vigna, Ferrari has already taken such an adjustment of plans into account. Ferrari probably also actively lobbied for it, because Italy recently threw its butt against the crib in the European Parliament, just like Germany. According to Vigna, there is enough room at Ferrari in the financial plans for the coming years to work on engines that can run on synthetic fuels in addition to electrification. The Italian is also not concerned about the cost of those fuels. “It’s a new technology and, like any new technology, costs are going down.”

In 2030, despite this news, Ferrari’s all-electric offering should make up 40 percent of the sales mix and hybrids another 40 percent. Models with a pure combustion engine are then expected to account for only 20 percent of sales.
