After Tesla, Ionity is also opening its fast charging points in Ukraine’s neighboring countries for free to everyone. All charging stations in Poland, Slovakia and Hungary are temporarily free to use.
In any case, the Ionity promotion will run throughout the month of March. This follows Ionity Tesla, which the day before yesterday opened all its superchargers in selected areas in Poland, Slovakia and Hungary for free. Unlike Tesla, all Ionity fast chargers are free to use in those countries. Ionity not only wants to support refugees from Ukraine, but also the people in the surrounding countries who help them. Incidentally, there are not yet many fast chargers in the region. In western Poland, Ionity has seven fast charging stations, in Slovakia there is one near Bratislava and in Hungary there are four in the region around Budapest.
It is the first time that Ionity, owned by BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, Ford and the Volkswagen Group, has launched such a campaign. Tesla already did this during the floods in Germany, Belgium and Limburg. Ionity is also a lot smaller than Tesla’s Supercharger network at the moment, but that needs to change. By 2025, the charging operator aims to have around 7,000 fast chargers. Currently, Ionity has 407 locations with a total of 1,641 fast chargers.
