iPhone (2007) vs iPhone 14 Pro (2022): 15 years of changes

The first iPhone appeared in 2007 and 15 years later, the iPhone 14 Pro is Apple’s showpiece. What changes have there been over the years? And has anything remained the same? In this iPhone (2007) vs iPhone 14 Pro we list the changes!

iPhone (2007) vs iPhone 14 Pro: 15 years of Apple

It was a bit of a shock in 2007 when Steve Jobs announced the iPhone 2G. It was an iPod, a phone and could connect to the internet. The first Apple smartphone was therefore a huge hype.

Still, we had to wait a while in the Netherlands. The first iPhone did not appear here, but at our eastern neighbours. It wasn’t until a year later, when the second version (the iPhone 3G) was announced in 2008, that Apple’s smartphone also appeared in the Netherlands. You could surf the internet with 3G, something that almost everyone still dreamed of at the time.

Fifteen years later, the iPhone 14 is the latest device, with the ultimate showpieces being the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Over the years, the iPhone has received quite a few upgrades.

1. Design: old-fashioned good

The design has not changed much in all that time. Even if you have never seen the first iPhone, it is immediately recognizable as an iPhone. Of course, the housing has been adjusted here and there (from round to angular and back again), but it remains recognizable.

However, a lot has changed in those years. For example, the screen was 3.5 inches, which was quite large at the time. Now even the smallest iPhones, the iPhone 13 mini and the iPhone SE 2022, have a much larger screen. The iPhone 14 Pro Max even has a screen size of 6.7 inches.

The home button has now disappeared from almost all devices and a notch (notch) or a Dynamic Island has also been added. The software has received a major update, but in essence many things have remained the same.

2. Storage, battery and processing power

When the iPhone appeared 15 years ago, you had a choice of 4, 8 or 16GB storage. Nowadays that is really not enough and iOS already takes up a good number of GBs of your storage.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max has 128GB of storage as standard. Don’t you think that’s enough? Then you can also choose to go up to 1TB (1024GB). Then you can be sure that you have enough space for your apps and photos for the time being.

Not only was the storage space smaller, the battery was also not as large as it is today. You could surf the internet for about nine hours with the 1400mAh battery. Yet hardly anyone did, because internet subscriptions were still quite expensive at the time.

The chip was pretty smooth for the time. The first generation iPhone also had a multifunctional touchscreen. The first games used the touchscreen, but there was no App Store yet. One of the first games for the iPhone was Lights Off and you even had to jailbreak your iPhone to play it.

3. Camera: from 2 megapixel to 48 megapixel

Huge strides have also been made with the camera in the last fifteen years. The first iPhone still had a 2 megapixel camera. Photos were quite affected by noise and shooting at night you didn’t really have to try at all. And make videos? Forget it. That was not even possible on the first iPhone.

Nowadays, the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) has three lenses and you can even shoot a beautiful photo in the middle of the night. Apple has also gone from 2 megapixels to 48 megapixels. In addition, it is now possible to shoot in ProRAW so that you get even more details in your photos.

Of course, many more changes have been made over the years. For example, the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) now finally has an always-on screen and the AirPods and Apple Watch have also appeared that work closely with Apple’s smartphone. In any case, we are curious to see what the next fifteen years will bring!
