Thanks to the Odido data breach, criminals can make off with your data; There’s already a new dangerous trick you should be careful of.
More scams after Odido data breach
Millions of customers have fallen victim to the Odido data breach. Names, telephone numbers, email addresses, bank details and internal customer notes were stolen. Criminals are now trying to make use of that data and this is immediately noticeable.
A trick has surfaced that you should definitely be careful of. With this trick you are called by your own telephone number. Special software allows criminals to display a different telephone number on your phone screen than the number they actually call you with. In this case you will see your own telephone number. This trick is also known as ‘spoofing’.
When you receive a call from your own telephone number, you naturally immediately wonder how on earth that is possible. And that is exactly the intention. The chance that you are more likely to answer out of curiosity than when you receive a call from an unknown number is quite high.

Do not record!
Curb your curiosity and don’t answer! Certainly not now that the Odido data leak has been made public. If you do, you are already playing directly into the hands of the criminals. To start with, they know for sure that your telephone number is active. This also increases the chance that they will sell your number to other criminals.
It is also likely that they will immediately try to get more information from you during the telephone conversation. You may also receive links immediately via text message or email. Of course you shouldn’t click on that, but it is much better to just not answer the phone at all. You can also report the fraud attempt to your telecom provider and, if necessary, to the Fraud helpdesk.
