The iPad Air 2026 is here! And Apple has made a number of improvements again. This article dives a little deeper into the upgrades!

1. M4 chip

With the M4 chip, the new iPad Air has received a significant speed boost. You will especially notice this with heavy apps, if you work with large files, or if you want to edit your video content on the go, for example.

The chip is up to 30 percent faster than the iPad Air with M3 and even up to 2.3 times faster than the iPad Air with the M1 chip. Even if you like to play games, this iPad Air has become a bit faster. For example, 3D rendering with ray tracing is up to 4 times faster than on an iPad Air with M1.

2. N1 and C1X

The iPad Air has also received an N1 chip. This is Apple’s new wireless chip with support for WiFi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread. This makes the wireless connection in particular work a little better.

If you choose the Cellular model, it also includes an Apple C1X modem. This is up to 50 percent faster than the iPad Air with M3. And while you’re online, mobile internet uses up to 30 percent less energy.

3. More working memory

The new iPad Air 2026 has 12 GB of RAM (Apple calls this central memory). The previous iPad still had to make do with 8 GB. The memory is also faster, which makes AI models run faster. And more RAM is of course also a lot better for working with large files.
