Peugeot 305

You rarely come across a Peugeot 305 these days, let alone one in new condition. Yet that is what we have in front of us here with this 305, which comes from Belgium and has a special story.

The story of most of the cars that pass by in this section is unknown. You can read from data from the RDW how long the car has been in the possession of each owner, but that’s about it. Not with this Peugeot 305. It was originally delivered in Belgium, but thanks to the information from the seller we learn a lot about the history of this car. On May 18, 1987, this 305 was purchased by Mr Verbeek, a fruit farmer from Aarschot who bought his new car there at the Peugeot garage. He therefore had a copy from a late year of construction, because in 1988 Peugeot stopped production of the 305 sedan.

Unfortunately, Mr. Verbeek could not enjoy his new car for long. He died in early 1990 and the car was registered in his wife’s name. From then on, the car was only sporadically driven, but she apparently didn’t think about putting the 305 on sale. In the spring of 1997, when the car was almost ten years old, it was parked with more than 12,000 kilometers on the clock in a dark dry spot near the farmhouse. However, the petrol and coolant were removed. Time passed and in 2022 the 305 started with new fluids and a different battery reportedly immediately.

That also explains why this 305 has stood the test of time so well. It still seems to be in the factory paint and the interior, trunk and engine compartment look like new. The purchase invoice, the maintenance and instruction booklet and the original storage folder from the Peugeot dealer are also still included. In terms of execution, the 305 is not very special. This is because it concerns the base engine, a 1.3 four-cylinder with 60 hp. There is a tilting roof, but otherwise it all looks pretty basic on board. Yet that also contributes to the charm of this completely original 305.

As mentioned, the 305 is a very rare car these days and this one comes very close to the definition of a time capsule. The solid price of €9,950 makes it really a car for a Peugeot enthusiast or collector. Who is going to keep this car as well as its previous owners did?
