Also 340 hp strong ID3 GTX on the way

The Volkswagen ID3 is about to get a facelift. Even before Volkswagen presents the updated ID3 itself, AutoWeek can show you the tightened electric Volkswagen almost in its entirety.
The Volkswagen ID3 will receive a small refresher in the spring. The electric hatchback and Volkswagen’s first member of the electric ID family was presented at the IAA in Frankfurt in 2019 and after more than three years, Volkswagen thinks it’s time to update the car. Volkswagen previously released a set of design sketches of the updated ID3 and now we can show you the car almost without stickers.

The digital drawings that Volkswagen released of the updated ID3 already confirmed that the car is not being tackled too harshly from an optical point of view. That doesn’t mean nothing changes. The wrapped white test sample in these photos shows how most of the exterior changes dry up in practice. The most notable change can be found on the front cover. Or actually behind it. Until now, the Volkswagen ID3 had a higher part in front of the windscreen, which has been smoothed out in the new variant and is therefore just as high as the actual front cover. On this test sample, that previously higher part is still in black, while it was in body color on the design sketches presented by Volkswagen.
We find more optical news lower on the front. There is a new front bumper, complete with new vertical slots on the sides and a newly shaped opening at the bottom. The pattern printed in the bumper of the current ID3 will not return. The rear of the ID3 seems to remain practically unchanged.
Volkswagen gives the ID3, among other things, a new and larger infotainment screen. Currently, a 10-inch display is standard and a 12-inch one is optional. From the facelift, a 12-inch screen is standard. The shape of the outflow openings of the ventilation system also seems to change. Volkswagen itself already announced that the updated ID3 will have new functions such as Plug & Charge and that Travel Assist has been improved, among other things. In addition, according to Volkswagen, the complete interior must feel higher quality and the brand only uses ‘animal-free’ material.

It is not yet known what technical changes Volkswagen has in store for the updated ID3. We do know that in the form of the ID3 GTX there will probably be a 340 hp strong GTI-like version.
