Stalking with an AirTag will soon be made more difficult, because Apple has a new update in the planning. You can read exactly what will change here.
Stalking with AirTag more difficult after update
Apple has put a number of smart gadgets in the AirTag to minimize the chance of stalking. For example, the tracker has a built-in speaker that will beep when the paired iPhone has not been around for a while.
Nevertheless, it often happens that the AirTags are used for stalking practices. AirTags have even been found on eBay and Etsy with the speakers turned off. In America, even cars were stolen using AirTags.
Apple is going to make stalking with an AirTag more difficult in the upcoming update. A number of things are going to change. When you set up an AirTag for the first time, you will now receive an extensive notification. It states that you should only use the AirTag to track down your own belongings and not use it to track or stalk others.
The notification also states that the AirTag is linked to your Apple ID and that the police can request this information. In addition, clearer notifications will also appear on your iPhone if an AirTag ‘travels’ with you.
Stalking with AirTag: Update for Find My
In the early versions of iOS 15.2, there was another feature that let you find out if you were carrying a tracker (or if there was one nearby). This feature was found in the Find My app. However, in the eventual release of iOS 15.2, this feature has disappeared without a trace. It’s unknown if that particular feature will ever make it back.
It is still a while until the official update of AirTag is released to combat stalking. Fortunately, there are other ways to find out if there is an unknown AirTag near you.
Automatic notification unknown AirTag on iPhone
When you come close to an unknown tracker with an iPhone, you automatically receive a notification that one has been found. You should then check whether there is an AirTag hidden somewhere. Use the option to have the unknown AirTag play a sound and you’ll find it in no time.
Detect AirTag on Android
Do you have an Android phone? Then you need Apple’s official Tracker Detect from the Google Play Store use. Not only can you track down the AirTag with this app, you can also find compatible trackers from other manufacturers with it.
