Up to 400 kilometers range
Stellantis will bring hydrogen-electric vans to the Netherlands in 2023. Hydrogen-electric versions of the Citroën Jumpy, Opel Vivaro and Peugeot Expert will be available.
In addition to combustion engines, the light commercial vehicles of the Stellantis brands are also available with electric powertrains. The Citroën Jumpy, Opel Vivaro and Peugeot Expert will also have hydrogen-electric versions. They have both a fuel cell and a somewhat individually usable battery pack on board.
The hydrogen-electric versions of the Jumpy, Vivaro and Expert will come to the Netherlands in the first quarter of 2023. The regular electric versions of these vans, in combination with the larger of the two available batteries, have a range of up to about 330 kilometers. The hydrogen-electric versions should offer a solution for the entrepreneur who travels greater distances every day. An additional advantage: you can fill up with hydrogen in just a few minutes. So you can continue quickly, provided you can find a hydrogen filling station.
While hydrogen-electric passenger cars such as the Toyota Mirai often have a battery pack of only a few kWh, Stellantis’ hydrogen-electric commercial vehicles will have a relatively large model with a capacity of 10.5 kWh. You can drive it fully electrically for up to 50 kilometers. The package can be charged by means of an 11 kW on-board charger.
Of course, the new commercial vehicles also have a fuel cell on board. It is located under the hood and therefore does not take up any cargo space. In addition, the orderers have three hydrogen tanks that together can store 4.4 kilos of hydrogen. The loading volume is a maximum of 6.1 cubic meters, the maximum towable weight is 1,000 kilograms.
At the bottom of the line, Stellantis’ hydrogen-electric commercial vehicles can travel up to 400 kilometers without refueling. The electric motor that drives the wheels is a well-known one. That is simply the 136 hp and 260 Nm strong variant that is in the regular electric versions of the three. The vans reach a speed of 100 km/h in 15 seconds. The top speed is set at 110 km/h.
Stellantis hydrogen buses are currently still rolling off the production line in Rüsselsheim, Germany. From 2024 they will see the light of day in Hordain in France. There they run from the same production line as the copies with other engine variants.
