You might not think it, but it has been more than 20 years since Dainese was the very first manufacturer to introduce a motorcycle airbag system at the dawn of the new millennium. The Italians have no fewer than three new suits for 2024, to introduce motorcycle enthusiasts worldwide to the latest generation of D-air airbags.
D-air RACING SHIELD 3X system
The latest D-air technology is called “Racing Shield 3X system”, and the differences with the previous generations of D-air are significant. For example, a rider can reset the system for up to three crashes themselves with the app, whereby all that is required is a new gas cartridge to reactivate the airbag.
In the same app, the user can choose between track or street use, so that the optimal algorithm is applied in all circumstances. The latest generation of D-air® offers an increased degree of safety and ease of use.
From Misano to Mugello
There are three suits in the Dainese collection that feature the latest Racing Shield 3X system: the Mugello 3, Misano 3, and Misano 3 WMN.
Dainese Mugello 3
The Dainese Mugello 3 is the leading racing suit straight from MotoGP, and technically identical to the suit used by riders such as Marco Bezzecchi, Luca Marini and Franco Morbidelli in the premier class.
Features of the new Mugello 3 include a base of the highest quality perforated kangaroo leather, more strategically placed stretch panels, and interchangeable and adjustable titanium hard-parts on shoulders, knees and elbows.
The closure around the neck has been completely revised, which means that thanks to the use of the Veloce Racing Neck system, less pressure is now exerted on the neck and more freedom of movement has been created. Thanks to extensive development work at the highest level, the Mugello 3 offers more comfort and a higher degree of protection at a significantly lower weight.
Dainese Misano 3 and Misano 3 WMN
As with the previous generations of both suits, the Misano 3 is a derivative of the Dainese Mugello 3, in a more accessible package. For example, you will find perforated D-Skin 2.0 full-grain cowhide leather as the base material instead of kangaroo leather, and the hard parts are made of aluminum instead of titanium.
Items such as a removable, washable liner and replaceable knee and elbow sliders can be found on all three suits, as well as the new self-locking wrist closures. There is a version of the Dainese Misano 3 specially developed for women, the Dainese Misano 3 WMN.
