1. VGZ Mindfulness Coach

Health insurer VGZ has its own free mindfulness app. To use this, you do not need to have insurance with this party. When you open the Dutch mindfulness app for the first time, you will be asked for this, but you can simply indicate that you are not insured with VGZ.

With Headspace you can achieve both goals. The popular app was created by Andy Puddicombe, an Englishman who spent years as a Tibetan monk. Using audio files recorded by him, Headspace tries to make meditation and mindfulness a regular part of your day.

This includes several mindfulness exercises. For example, at the beginning of each meditation you are asked to ‘scan’ your body for possible feelings of stress. You then move on to breathing exercises, with Puddicombe showing you how best to keep your thoughts as your stomach rises and falls.

Unlike the VGZ Mindfulness Coach, Headspace is not a Dutch mindfulness app. In addition, the app is not free, although you can take a few trial lessons to see how you like it.

3. The Mindfulness App

Are you looking for a mindfulness app in Dutch? Then try The Mindfulness App. The name speaks for itself, but this application tries to create more peace in your head. It does not matter whether you already have experience with meditation/mindfulness or are a complete beginner.

The latter group can, for example, get started with the Warming Up session. This is a five-day series in which beginners are introduced to mindfulness. Once you get the hang of it, you can get started with the regular sessions. You can choose whether you want to meditate for 3, 10, 20 or 30 minutes.
