The smartphone industry is still innovative, according to the guests we invite in our special Tech In Five podcast. Yet we also see innovations that are more like gimmicks than major improvements. We have found three telephones with special features. What do you think? Vote in the poll!
1. Phone with 900 LED lights on the back
Recently we saw the front and back of the Nothing Phone (1) pass by in a video. More than 900 LED lights are incorporated into the back of this yet-to-be-announced phone, forming a unique pattern. But do these LED lights, besides giving a unique and special design, offer more functionalities?
Yes! For example, you can set the lights to light up when you receive a notification. They can also serve as an extra light source when taking photos and the lighting can indicate the battery status when you charge the phone. The fuller the LED strip, the fuller the phone. You can read more about this lighting of the Nothing Phone (1) here.
2. Phone with physical scroll wheel and shoulder mount
ASUS accidentally uploaded a video of the yet-to-be-announced Zenfone 9 to its YouTube channel, and there we see the phone comes with some very interesting quirks. First of all, there is a separate physical button on the side with which you can scroll. We already see this function on some phones. There you can link that function to the on/off button to bring up the notification shade.
But there is more. In the video we also see a handy accessory, a kind of smart backpack attachment. This allows you to easily take the phone with you on the go. ASUS also comes with a kind of modular phone case that also functions as a kickstand.
3. Mondrian phone that changes color
The Camon 19 Pro 5G from the Chinese telephone manufacturer Tecno is designed entirely in the style of our Piet Mondrian. At least the back. TECNO has created this special Mondrian Edition in collaboration with Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts and you can clearly see the well-known geometric shapes Piet Mondrian is known for. The shapes change color with UV light.
The phone also comes with a 6.8-inch FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a 50MP camera with 2x optical zoom, a 5000mAh and the midrange Helio G96 chipset. Unfortunately, this special Mondriaan phone is not available in Europe.
All these phones come with useful features or are they gimmicks? What do you think? Leave your vote in the poll and clarify it in the comments!
