Nice skating
(Image: ANP/Sem van der Wal)
We can go back on the ice (for a while). There will be a few more nights of frost. These 5 great free skating apps for iPhone are therefore highly recommended to download when you tie your irons again as a skater.
Be quick this week if you want to slip old and familiar again on an ice rink or flooded meadow. At the end of the week it will rain and thaw again, but until then ice fun is the motto on skates.
The best free skating apps for iPhone
Of course we all know sports and running apps for the iPhone, but skating apps also exist! These are 5 free iOS apps that you should definitely download if you go ice skating.
#1 Ice master shows the skater the best spots
This app received a major update this week. It is not a very extensive app, but what it does do is indicate the ice quality in certain places. Thanks to a smiley, skaters can indicate how good the frozen water is and whether there are many dangerous holes.

#2 The official KNSB iPhone skating app
This is a free app for the fanatics among us. For example, GoSkate from the KNSB (Royal Dutch Skating Association) measures your lap times on many ice rinks in the Netherlands. The app also gives you the latest news in the field of skating. You will also receive updates from friends and from your skating club. It’s also bursting with tips and can book you lessons. Handy if you haven’t driven for some time.

#3 Classic Free ASICS Runkeeper: Running App
Runkeeper is one of the best-known sports apps at the moment. At first glance, it seems to be intended only for runners, but you can choose from 30 sports, including skating. The cool thing is that it has an Apple Watch app, so that as a skater you don’t always have to have your iPhone in your pocket.

#4 Lap Counter
You actually need the MyLaps sensor for this free iPhone app, and for a skater it quickly costs 60 euros. You also get an annual subscription. This is definitely a set-up meant for the serious skaters. There is also an app for the Apple Watch. In any case, the software gives you a perfect overview of your performance by means of clear graphs.
