5 features that show the power of Apple’s AirTag excellently

It has been two years since Apple introduced the AirTag. After years of rumors, the American company finally released a tracker with which you can easily find your belongings. But why would you actually buy them in 2023?

Many people are already walking around with the handy trackers these days, but it is of course always possible that you have no idea what they do. In this article, the editors of One More Thing explain it to you with love.

Apple AirTag: 5 useful features

For example, if you want to keep a close eye on your wallet, you can purchase an AirTag for 39 euros. If one is not enough for you, then you ‘just’ score a four-pack. For 129 euros you have it at home.

Are you curious what Apple’s smart trackers do exactly?

#1 Extremely accurate tracking

The devices from the iPhone 14 series are equipped with Apple’s U1 chip. This also applies to the iPhone 11, 12 and 13. This makes it possible to track objects very accurately, given that the small trackers have also received the chip.

Thanks to the integration with the Find Myapp on iPhone, Mac or iPad it is possible to navigate to your objects. A large arrow indicates which way to walk, vibrations let you know how close you are. Are you in the area but still have no idea? Then it is possible to play a sound, so that it hits the mark.

#2 AirTag in Lost Mode

When you have lost an AirTag it is not possible to see its location. It is possible to put the tracker in the so-called Lost Mode. When that mode is enabled, a number of things change.

First, your AirTag will be locked. This ensures that other people do not run off with your tracker. In addition, this ensures that the gadget can be scanned with an NFC tracker, so that your data is displayed. This way, not only people with an iOS device, but also people with an Android device can always bring the tracker to the rightful owner.

If you go outside and still come close to the AirTag, your iPhone will notify you. You will then also see the location of the device.

#3 Focus on privacy

Apple is now known for its focus on privacy. Something that you will certainly see in the new AirTag. The tracker works together with the Find Me app, which makes it possible to find your belongings as accurately as possible. That could just provide a lot of data, but Apple has come up with something for that.

The AirTag does not store the data about its location. In that respect, nothing is left behind on the device with which you try to find your stuff. The AirTag only follows the signal from the nearest Apple device and that’s it. The data associated with this will be stored, but it is only for you. So they are fully encrypted and safe.

#4 AirTag battery easy to replace

Few people will have thought of it, but the AirTag works on a battery. Practice has taught us over the past two years that the batteries last about a year.

After that, you have to replace the standard CR2032 battery with a new one yourself. All you have to do is detach the back of the AirTag and change the battery.

#5 Easy to set up

Setting up your AirTag is incredibly easy and so squeaky. Apple itself even calls the process “magical”. Now we are not so fond of those terms, but it seems to be damn easy.

Like your AirPods, the AirTag will pop up on your iPhone’s screen when it’s detected. Then it’s a matter of connecting, naming the tracker and you’re good to go!
