5 timeless tricks for your Apple Watch that you probably don’t know yet

We no longer have to tell you that the Apple Watch has many different functions. There are plenty of things you already know as a use, such as checking your heart rate or paying via Apple Pay. Still, there are certain tricks that you don’t know, but are definitely worth it. OMT editor Jeroen Kraak tells you everything.

Anyone looking for an ideal gadget for on the road will probably end up with the Apple Watch. Not only does it save the number of times you take your iPhone out of your pocket, but it also makes it easy to keep an eye on your health. And luckily there is a lot more to do.

5 timeless tricks for your Apple Watch

We list five of those special tricks. This way you can immediately try them on your Apple Watch.

#1 Check the noise level around you

You are probably in a noisy environment on a regular basis. This can be in a cafe, but also outside on the street. You may be wondering if this is bad for your hearing. The answer can be found on the Apple Watch on your wrist.

The smartwatch can indicate how many decibels the sound around you is and when you are exposed to it for too long. The function, which you can find under the yellow icon with the ear, prevents hearing damage.

#2 Remotely control your iPhone camera

Do you often take pictures? Then this function on the Apple Watch may be perfect for you. You can control your iPhone camera remotely. Ideal if you want to take a group photo or a selfie.

The Apple Watch shows what your iPhone camera has in view. You can easily set a timer for 10 seconds using a special app on your smartwatch.

#3 Find your iPhone easily

We’ve all lost our iPhones at some point. You can easily find it with your Apple Watch. Not only can you make it make sounds by sliding from bottom to top on your screen and pressing the phone icon. It is also possible to flash the light next to the camera.

To flash your iPhone, you don’t need to do much. Instead of pressing the phone icon briefly, you have to hold it down.

#4 Use custom timers

Timers on your Apple Watch are very useful. For example, a kitchen timer is completely unnecessary. You can make it even easier by creating custom timers. You then save this in your Apple Watch. Think, for example, of a special timer for boiling an egg or heating up a pizza.

You find the function by clicking on the timer symbol and then amended to select. If you have used it then, you will see it under recent. Swipe that time to the right and click on the star. This saves the timer. If you use Siri for it, it even comes up with a name when you say what you need the timer for.

#5 Water lock on your Apple Watch

You can also use your Apple Watch in the water when you go swimming, for example. That’s handy because, just like with any other workout, it can measure the distance and tell you what your heart rate zones are like.

To activate the water lock, swipe from bottom to top. Then click on the droplet. Done with your activity? Then you hold down the crown. The Apple Watch then blows all the water out of your screen.
