Pixel Feature Drops
Google regularly treats the users of its phones to new features and it does so with Pixel Feature Drops. In a blog post the company writes about all the improvements coming with the March 2022 update. Discover all the novelties below or watch the video at the top of this article.
1. Night Sight in Snapchat
Google has long had a far-reaching partnership with Snap, the company behind the social media app Snapchat. Snapchat’s camera app is now compatible with the Pixel 6 series’ night mode. The feature is automatically used by Snapchat when desired given the lighting conditions.
2. Watch YouTube together
In Spotify you can listen to the same music together and now a ‘watch party’ function is also coming in YouTube. This works in combination with Google Duo, the well-known app for video calling. It has been possible for some time to share your screen with someone else in Duo, but now you can also tap the option to start YouTube. You can then watch videos together with your conversation partner. This feature was first available exclusively on the Galaxy S22 series, but now it’s coming to all Pixel phones.
3. Custom Gboard stickers
Gboard is the standard Android keyboard on many phones, but Gboard gets an extra functionality on Pixel phones. If you type text and then choose the stickers section of Gboard, your keyboard may recommend custom stickers. Suppose you type: “Happy Birthday, Mom”, you will be able to use that exact text as a sticker. Unfortunately, for now, the feature is only available when you use your keyboard in the English US language.

4. At a Glance Improvements
Quick overview of At a Glance is Google’s smartest widget, because it bundles the functionalities of many different widgets. At a Glance shows information when it is relevant. The widget can now alert you if one of your connected Bluetooth devices has an empty battery. Furthermore, the widget warns for earthquakes and you get the option to stop alarms on holidays. The enhanced At a Glance should be available on all Pixels.
5. Widget with battery life wireless earbuds
Google comes with a new battery widget. The idea is that you will not only see the remaining battery capacity of your phone on the home screen, but also of connected Bluetooth devices such as wireless earphones. You can find the widget in the widget list under Institutions. Choose the Battery widget with its 4×4 format. The widget is available on all Pixel devices.

6. New Wallpapers
It’s International Women’s Day on March 7 and in honor of that day, Google is launching a new series of wallpapers. They were created by British illustrator Manjit Thapp. it concerns three colorful images in which women play the leading role. The new wallpapers are available on all Pixel phones.
More novelties
As you know, Pixel phones are not officially available in the Netherlands and that is why there are many novelties that are less relevant to us. For example, Google has now proposed an extension for Live Caption, which is the live captioning function that only works in English. You can now start Live Caption during a phone call and then go to the keyboard. If you then type text, Google will read that text to your conversation partner. A powerful accessibility feature, but it doesn’t work in Dutch.

Furthermore, Google has extended the Direct my Call function to all older Pixel devices. This is a feature from the US that converts the typical menu options that you hear during telephone calls with companies into text. There’s even an interface with text options to choose from, without having to press numbers. The Recorder app on Pixels can now transcribe a conversation when you speak in Spanish or Italian. Finally, the Google Assistant Quick Phrases now also work in Spanish, Italian, and French.
