From iMac to iPod: these 5 forgotten Apple products need a new life

We can assure you that we can be quite nostalgic. Remember that time when the Walkman was the shit? Or that we were in some panic because the Tamagotchi was still at home and we couldn’t feed it? Apple also has forgotten products that we still have a warm heart for. We would like to see these 5 return.

Apple has had some great products that unfortunately have not received a successor. And that’s why we often muse about new versions of products that tickle our nostalgic bone.

Apple nostalgia that we want a new version of

There are those products that you think back to with nostalgia. They were icons that made many hearts beat faster. So are these five Apple products of which we secretly want a 2023 version.

1. The G4 Cube

The role of sweet little Apple computer has now been taken by the Mac mini, but before that we had the G4 Cube. This striking, semi-transparent device was beautiful and definitely a PC that people looked at with some envy. However, it had a big problem: it cost $1,799 in 2000 (converted to $3,125 in 2023). But for the price of a new Mac Mini (719 euros) and those specs, we would like to see a return of the square box.

2. Apple’s iPod Classic

The arrival of the iPhone in 2007 effectively killed one of Apple’s most popular products: the iPod. But damn, what a big impact the device had. Everywhere in the streets, people with the iconic white earplugs appeared. As far as we’re concerned, there will be a super version of the music player with the turntable at some point, if only for the wonderful, clicking sound when you searched for songs.

3.AirPower

Okay, admittedly: this brilliant invention was presented but never saw the light of day. This wireless charger was suitable for the iPhone and your Apple AirPods (and nope, not your Apple Watch). Reportedly, the charger would get way too hot so the company pulled the plug. But in 2023 this problem should be easy to solve, right? So come on with a new version.

4. The iMac G3

There’s no point in reviving a beast like the iMac G3, but we thought the G3 was beautiful and absolutely unique. And yes, of course Apple has re-released the iMac itself with fun colors, but that convex one had its charms. No idea what specs we would want, but it would look good in an office.

5. iMac Pro

And if we stick to the iMacs for a while: where is a new version of the iMac Pro? This machine was already released in 2017, but has not had an update in the meantime. But if you don’t want to cough up the huge amount for a Mac Pro, but you want more power than a ‘regular’ iMac (still with an M1 processor), then a new iMac Pro with new specs fits perfectly.

Apple now has the M2 Pro and Ultra processor and the Studio Display and Pro Display XDR so the components are already there. What are you waiting for, Apple?
