What’s Indycar?
Many Dutch motorsport fans will mainly know Honda as an engine supplier in Formula 1, but in the United States it is also active as such in Indycar. The second now leads to this insane CR-V.
In the United States things are not going as fast as here when it comes to ‘greening’ motorsport. While the rather European F1 party has been celebrated with hybrid powertrains since 2014, Indycar will only start working with it next year. To anticipate this, Honda is screwing its latest Indycar powertrain into the new CR-V. At least, a tube frame with a CR-V-like body on it. About the only thing that the street-legal CR-V and this colossus have in common is that it has a hybrid powertrain.
The beating heart is Honda’s 2.2 biturbo V6, which is now equipped with a Motor Generator Unit (MGU) that can deliver electrical power to the powertrain. The result is said to be more than 800 horsepower. This does not bring Indycar to the power that Formula 1 is currently tapping, but at least it is one step closer. It is a nice and special choice by Honda to pack this fantastic new technology in a CR-V, the whole certainly looks striking. Incidentally, there is also a hybrid Honda CR-V in the barrel for us Europeans. In fact, the new CR-V is making its appearance in our country this year and is always partly electric: hybrid or plug-in hybrid.
