Ford is expanding the Puma delivery range with a second ST variant. The 200 hp Ford Puma ST-X with manual six-speed gearbox gets a more modest motorized but above all more economical ST flavor next to it. This is the Ford Puma ST Powershift, a mild hybrid ST with automatic transmission.

The Ford Fiesta ST has been a serious player in the compact hot hatch segment for years and with the Puma ST-X, the manufacturer has successfully translated the ST recipe into a crossover. The Ford Puma ST-X has a 200 hp 1.5 EcoBoost petrol engine and a manual six-speed gearbox and is therefore good for a solid dose of throw-and-throw fun. The Puma ST-X is now joined by a new ST version: the Puma ST Powershift.

The Powershift is technically quite different from the already well-known ST-X. For example, it does not have a 1.5 EcoBoost, but a much smaller 1.0 EcoBoost power source. Like the regular Pumas, the new ST Powershift has a 48v mild-hybrid powertrain. That powertrain is not 125 hp and does not deliver 155 hp like the 1.0 EcoBoost Hybrid that you can get in the Focus, among others. No, the Puma ST Powershift contains a 170 hp and 248 Nm strong variant of that mild hybrid 1.0 three-cylinder. In addition, the ST Powershift does not have a manual six-speed gearbox, but a Powershift automatic transmission with double clutch and seven gears. It sprints from standstill to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds. This means that it is only 0.7 seconds less fast than the 200 hp ST-X on the 0-100 sprint. The average consumption is 6.3 l/100 km. The Puma ST-X records an average consumption of 6.8 l/100 km behind its name. In Sport mode, the automatic transmission holds its lower gears longer. With the help of flippers behind the wheel you should be able to click through the gears yourself.

Furthermore, according to Ford, the Puma ST Powershift is simply a real ST. It has the same chassis, the same stiffer torsion beam, the same anti-roll bar and the same dampers as the Puma ST-X. The brakes are also identical. From the outside, the Ford Puma ST Powershift with its spoiler work, modified grilles and wheels can immediately be recognized as a Puma-with-ST indulgence.

The first copies will arrive in the Netherlands at the end of the second quarter. Prices will follow soon.
