App Store Pearls: Clearspace helps you with social media addiction

Every day we do a tour of the internet for you to find the best apps in the App Store for your iPhone, iPad or Apple TV. Today, OMT editor Dunke van Boekel has Clearspace in store for you. This app is going to help you with social media usage.

It is abundantly clear that social media such as Instagram, Twitter and TikTok play a major role in our lives. Many people lose hours scrolling from video to video or from photo to photo, which is of course nice (this is how you find out that a yellow iPhone 14 is coming), but sometimes things also suffer. This App Store Pearl helps with that

Clearspace lets you take a breather

To get a better grip on the hours you spend on social media, Clearspace lets you select a number of apps that you want to set a daily limit on. The app works similarly to the app timers you’ll find on Android devices in that regard.

Once you’ve selected the apps, set a time limit, after which the App Store Pearl will pull you out of the app when the time is up. Time keeps ticking, so the goal is to make sure you don’t open apps so impulsively. You can also simply set a timer from 5 to 15 minutes when you open the app.

Clearspace also ensures that you open an app less often, only to close it again immediately and then start it again (it’s happened to all of us) by setting a limit on how often you can use the app daily to open.

No more doom scrolling because of this App Store Pearl

Doomscrolling is the process of taking in so much negativity on social media that it makes you physically unwell. The apps are designed to keep us interested so we can keep going, but that can have negative consequences.

Clearspace therefore offers a fairly simple function. When you open a social media app, a screen appears on which a circle starts to form. In the center is simply: “Breath”. By taking a breather, the App Store Pearl helps you calm down, in case you dive into another hole of misery.

Clearspace is available on the App Store on your iPhone or iPad, and as a Chrome extension.
