Talks with McLaren broke down

Porsche has to abandon its wish for a return to Formula 1 for the time being. After earlier failed negotiations with Red Bull, an entry in 2026 now also seems off the track with McLaren.
Last summer, Porsche seemed close to a deal with Red Bull to become the engine supplier of that F1 team by 2026, but that party was cancelled. Porsche would like a finger in the pie that is too big for Red Bull’s taste. Red Bull eventually struck a deal with Ford and Porsche sat down with McLaren to explore the possibilities. Those talks with the team from Woking did not lead to cooperation either. That messages The Race and Motorsport.com.
The conclusion that Porsche would have drawn now is that there are no options for 2026 for the time being. The Germans have put the F1 aspirations on hold for the time being. A setback for the Volkswagen Group, which hoped to enter Formula 1 with both Audi and Porsche. Audi did succeed; in 2026, the Sauber team, which is still operating under the Alfa Romeo flag, will appear on the grid with four rings on the car.
