With watchOS 27, the Apple Watch gets a new app screen that automatically adapts to your use. As soon as you press the Digital Crown, a dynamic grid of apps that you probably need at that moment appears. Consider recently used apps, popular apps and applications that may be relevant based on your activity, time of day or location.
In countries where Siri AI is available, the new Siri app will be at the center of the grid. Multiple suggestions appear around this app, giving you quicker access to the most important features without having to search through a full app overview first. In other countries, the Settings app is central.
Apps that adapt automatically
The dynamic app screen does not necessarily replace the entire app overview, but forms a smart home page. The Apple Watch tries to predict which apps you want to open at that moment based on artificial intelligence.
The five apps around the central icon can therefore change regularly. For example, a workout app may appear if you often exercise at that time, while a music app may be suggested more quickly when you are on the go. Apps that you have just used or that have been running in the background can also be brought forward.
At the bottom of the grid is a button that gives you access to all apps. Depending on your preference, the grid view or list view will then open. You can also scroll through the entire app overview with the Digital Crown.
Disable dynamic app screen
If you do not want to use the dynamic app screen, then unfortunately there is bad news. It is not possible to disable this display. As soon as you press the Digital Crown from the watch face, the dynamic app screen will be visible. By turning the Digital Crown again or tapping the app overview icon, all apps will be displayed.
Siri in the center of the grid
The central position is initially reserved for the Siri app. Apple gives Siri a permanent place within the new interface, so that you can open the AI assistant directly from the app screen.
The new Siri should not only be able to answer questions on the Apple Watch, but also understand more context and perform actions. This requires a paired iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence and Siri AI.
Settings app in the EU
The situation is different for users in the European Union. Siri AI will not be available on iPhones and iPads in the EU at launch, meaning the associated Siri functions on the Apple Watch cannot be fully utilized. The Apple Watch is dependent on a paired iPhone that supports Siri AI.
The dynamic app screen itself does work. Instead of the Siri app, watchOS 27 shows the Settings app in the middle. Apps that the system considers relevant at that moment will then appear around this central icon. The suggestions are still determined using artificial intelligence, but without the central Siri function.
